Measurements required
To replace handles to fit exisiting holes
Take off the old handles and measure the distance between the centres of the threaded legs. Do not measure the outer edges of the holes.
Or
Measure the distance between the centres of the holes on the doors, but this is not such an accurate method because the holes will be slightly bigger.
Standard sizes
Your measurement should be the standard size of 32, 64, 96, 128, 160, 192, 224, 320 or 448mm. Larger sizes will vary up to and over one metre with bar handles
To replace knobs
How - most knobs use a singe screw or bolt therefore any other knob with a single screw will fit.
You may need to take a measurement if the old knob has left a "footprint" and wish to install a knob that obscures the mark. Check the dimensions on the replacement knob is equal to or larger than the one you are replacing. If you are still unsure why not try a sample or two.
Choosing your replacement handles or knobs
Use the search facility to see if you can track down the handle or knob on our website. This is the fast way and the method our staff uses to find items for our telephone customers.
-
Start with something general like 'knob' or 'handle' then filter it down based on the category
-
Or to be more specific by typing in for example 'pewter knob'
-
Or specify the size for example '128mm handle'
To find handle dimensions click on the image or the enlarge button to view further information. If you are retro-fitting your handles look for the hole centres measurements and this will be the distance between the centre of the two holes, and therefore the distance you are aiming to match to.
If you can't match the hole centres you should look for a back plate on our website or a handle with a large enough "footprint" to cover the existing holes for example a strip bar handle. If the doors are painted your do of course have the option of filling and repainting,
For knobs, simply replace using the same hole.

Matching or co-ordinating
Most handles made of the same material for example pewter will look good alongside each other. Slight variations in finish do exist with most materials and by manufacturer so to be sure we always recommend ordering samples, as sometimes it's more a matter of personal taste than logic.
Installing your handles
Tools required
We normally use just a drill with a 4mm drill bit and cross-head screwdriver. The screws supplied (with every handle) are designed to be easily shortened by cutting down to length with pliers. In general though you will not need to do this as they fit the average door thickness (16mm).
All handles are supplied with 25mm fixing screws to accommodate door thickness's up to 16mm. For thicker doors you can purchase standard M4 screws form your local hardware store. You can also buy those on this website by visiting the kitchen handle screws page
